Just curious because I might buy a type-r shell locally and just want to have a stock engine. Prefering USDM, since it might be easier on the paperwork. I dont' know, would accept some advices.

If you live in Cali, get a US market engine. Otherwise it really shouldn't matter all that much.

I'm wondering if the good Mr. Franza sold his perfect US market swap yet.

Maybe even consider a K series engine since you would have to buy one.

I don't think there's any difference in the paperwork. Your car will use the VIN that the shell has. Although it would be a good idea to make multiple copies of the sales receipt for the motor, and keep a copy in the car or in your wallet, I don't think it's going to be a particular problem.

I would have a slight preference for a 98+ JDM motor, but if the USDM motor is available at a substantial savings I would go that way.

I'd only have a slight preference for the 98+ JDM motor because you aren't really going to be completely sure of the mileage and how it's running, and you're not going to be able to resist the temptation to start modifying it right away, hence virtually negating most of the paper advantage of the JDM motor.

and the 98+ have a longer 4th and 5th gear which only makes the final drive useful in 1st-3rd.

USDM tranny with JDM 4.7 FD > 98+ JDM tranny.
