Anyone have any idea how to remove anodizing?
Can of Easy-Off™ Heavy Duty Original Oven Cleaner will typically do the trick. Usual sound safety precautions apply. Chemical resistant gloves, eye protection good ventillation...
The oven cleaner is lye, spray it on, scrub with toothbrush or other suitable brush, rinse it down. No more than a few, like a couple of minute. soak.

Oven cleaner will weaken the aluminum that you spray it on which is why the can explicitly says DON NOT USE ON ALUMINUM. Just be sure that whatever you use it on is not a structural part. It will also most likely leave a rough textured surface behind.
I suggest just sanding it off if you don't want to risk it.
