Default Tial WG: 38mm or 44mm

81.5mm LS/VTEC...400+ on an SC61...

Should I go with the 38mm or the 44mm. I'mm be running higher boost levels obviously...so will I be alright with the 38mm? I read somewhere that you want a smaller WG for higher boost levels and a larger one for lower boost levels...

If you have any interest in running lower boost levels... say 9-10 pounds in 1st gear at the track it would probably be advantageous to use the larger gate. The tial 38 gates work well but when you have a larger turbo and try to run low boost the gate may have trouble evacuating the exhaust gas and this will cause a spike in boost pressure.

Hey, you ever send out the I/C Piping? We were expecting it sometime this week so we could get it on the car to do one last run before snow hits. Need to know when to expect it here so we can figure out if we are running or not.

i have a 38mm on my sc61 with low boost, no problems of course. i dont see any real advantage for the 44 in your case.

sorry to bring this back up but i have the same question. I have a 38mm wg on a revhard mani running an SC34. It will hold 8-26 psi with no problem. Im now going with a full race style manifold with an SC61.. do you think it will still perform the same?

I know that a bigger wastegate is for lower boost. SO lets say i wanted to hold 10 psi, will it also be fine for 25-28psi?? or just lower levels?

just get the 44. everything about it is nicer...if you want to run race gas you can (38 isnt intended for race gas unless you get one made for it) but best of all the 44 has the vbands holding it on which gives you a lot more flexability with everything and best of all you dont have to worry about the stupid 2 bolt flange on the 38.

i ran a 38 last year but i ran an 18psi spring.
