bad alt. whine
ok.. just finished relocating my battery to the trunk in my 98 coupe. and now i have a terrible alt. whine whenever my system is turned on..
so before i go out and start ripping things apart, could it be something with my power cable from the battery to the starter causing this, or would it be something with my amp. grounds/rcas?
basically what are some things to check before i tear the whole thing apart.

Well I would say make sure your power wire is not anywhere near your rca's and make sure the ground is good like to the frame not some sheet metal. Also ground your amp in the same spot as your battery. Make sure your amp is not screwed into any metal of your car. Screw it to your box or screw a board to metal and scew the amp to the board. Then try turning down the gains on your amp. One of those should work.
Your ground wire should be as short as possible. It sounds like mabey you had your rca's and power wires int hat ball of wires. If you must cross over a power wire with your rca's make sure you cross at 90 degree angles to minimize the interferance.
hmm ok.. first i do have a mess of wires behind my rear seat where both amps and the brain to my monitor are located, also i have all the amps grounded to one spot, and the battery grounded to the frame.
will it hurt anything to make the ground longer for the amps and run that to the frame also? or can i just run the ground to the negative batty terminal on the battery. (battery is in trunk)

Yes, definatly if the chasis of the amp is touching the sheet metal this will cause noise. I believe it creates a ground loop but Im not quite sure. I do know this will cause noise though and you shoud screw a board to the sheet metal and screw the amp.

If you have RCA's that have metal connectors make sure they do not touch the chassis anywhere. RCA ground and chassis ground are usually not the same thing.
Check your grounds run the amp grounds to the battery. You might also want to run the deck ground directly to the trunk also.
