Default Custom exhaust

I just bought a turbo A'pexi N1 muffer for my non-turbo car. Is it worth to custom 2.25 pipe or should I just weld on stock pipe? What would be the noise factor w/ custom or stock pipe? Hit me up!! Thanks

I can tell you that an educated Dyno-butt can feel the difference between a 1 7/8 pipe and a 2 1/4" pipe. The question you should ask is "Do I want to keep doing this every several years? If not, go stainless. And insist on Mandrel Bends. The heavier the gauge, the better.

isnt the turbo muffler 90mm? you would need more than 2.25 to accomodate the muffler right?

90mm is 3.54"......theres a reason why that muffler is marketed as for being for turbo cars....

Yes, most definitely get custom piping. A 90mm muffler will make it really raspy and nasty sounding. Mandrel bent stainless steel 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 piping is best. And DEFINITELY get a resonator put in wiht the piping to cut down on the sound or you'll be a ricer clown.

def need a resonator...N1 mufflers are realy just resontators, they dont act as mufflers

I believe the inlet is 75mm (3in). The reason I didnt get N/A 1 because its too small for my taste. Should I request a resonator from a custom shop or get a brand name type? If so.. hit me up

the NA n1 muffler is 60mm (2.36"), perfect for most 4cyl NA motors. the Turbo muffler is 90mm (3.54") which is MORE than enough for 99% of turbocharged motors, stock or not.

a resonator is a resonator is a resonator. your best bet is probably to order piping, etc, from a place like kteller.com, and then having a muffler shop simply weld it together

Good point on the pipe sizing issue. it's got to be remembered that part of what scavenges the exhaust from the system is it's momentum (tendency of a moving mass to stay in motion). Allow the passage which a gas column passes thru to get too big, and the flow will start stagnating. 2 1/4 to 2 1/2" Diameter seems to be the "sweet spot" for N/A 2.2L to 2.4L Honda's.

which is why 60mm is usually the optimum piping size unless you have a ridiculously built NA motor thats been bored out and is running high *** comprssion

So w/ stock pipes, a 90mm would sound that bad? I dont feel paying extra $185 pipes on kteller.com. Whats the quality custom piping shop & how much at the shop?

news flash...if you get new piping at the shop itll be just as much, and for an inferior product. welding a 3.54" opening to the stock piping will require the stock piping to be cut and flared. it may be more expensive to do that then to get new piping that actually fits

I didnt expect a good custom exhaust would cost this much. Apexi N1 ($140) + mandrel pipes ($200) + resonator ($65) = $$400ish not including labor. Im more into deep throaty sound, will it happen if I weld N1 muffler on stock? Btw my friend got his welded (turbo N1 muffler) on Scion Tc; its not that loud nor ricey. Hit me up :

If you just weld that on your stock piping, it will sound like complete ****.

your are asking for our advice and weve said it many of time. putting your muffler on stock piping is a waste of money and itll sound like garbage. if all you want is sound, then just unbolt ur rear section. sounds okay i guess other than that get 2.5 piping with ur muffler, itll sound better and actually have a reason. n1 mufflers aresuper loud so get ready to watch out for the cops

H..ll, you can skoff a Magnaflow (Or any of the major players) cat-back Stainless 2 1/14 system for 395.00 and hang it yourself and still be way cheaper.

http://www.fle-online.com/MAGN...d.htm

I suspect you've been caught in the same "Mo' is better" trap that we've all stumbled into at one time or another. That Turbo N1 is way too much Muffler for what you need. It's gonna be like attaching a megaphone to the rear of your car. A more conservative approach would give you better results

Just think what happens in a band. A trumpet uses small piping and makes a brighter, higher sound and doesnt require much air.

A tuba however, needs constant air and makes humongous noise.

If you put a tuba bell on a trumpet instead of the smaller size....see where it goes?

I just want to make clear that Apexi Turbo N1 muffler size is 75mm ( 3 in inlet)/ 115 mm(4.5 tip) http://www.apexi-usa.com/produ...Num=1. 90mm is hella too big but thats not the inlet, its the size of the NA N1 60mm inlet (2.36 in)/ 90mm tip. As for my upcoming exhaust setup, I'll think of it real hard Thanks all for your advices
