Type R pricing
It's really hard to say. An R with those many miles and in only average condition should only be worth like 10-12k. BUT, since it is a 97, the owner may not let it go for that. Believe it or not, some people would rather pay MORE for that 97 that you are describing than a 98 with say 90k miles in average condition.
I agree with Chris on all counts.
On a high mileage car, it's really all about condition. A '97 with 115K miles that has maintenance records showing that the owner has done all the maintenance, with the finish and interior in excellent shape (although consistent with the mileage i.e. a few chips on the windshield and front end), etc, might go for $14K. A '97 with 115K miles that looks beat to crap, with dents and scrapes and worn seats and such, and no maintenance history or anything else, might go for as little as $10K or even less. Chris's $10-12K range is probably as accurate as you can get without more details.
The problem with estimating a price is that there is a lot of variation within the category "average condition", and many owners over-value the condition of their cars.

I thought you were asking about a specific car.
Yes, you can get a Type R for $10-12K, but for that price, you can expect very high mileage and/or beat to crap condition and/or salvage title, etc...

The least you could pay?
Hmmm ... are negative "payments" of consideration here?
Otherwise I was going to say something like $ 6.52

People's opinions on "average" condition varies, IMO. In my mind it should be worth more than the 98 model simply for the fact that they only made 500 in '97, assuming that both models were in the exact same condition, even if the '97 has higher mileage.
I miss my 97 R talking about this

Pricing varies......keeps searching and you'll find the right Type R for the right price. I just took delivery of a 01 NBP Type R with 46K miles w/1 owner for a mere $12k. It was bought locally too so I didn't have to fly or drive anywhere to pick it up. Keeps looking.....you'll find a good deal from someone willing to sell.

Either that dude needed some more crack or it had a salvaged title. FWIW I'm selling my 01 PY with 69k all stock clean titled and never in an accident for 17k

I don't think deals like that come around very often. I got a 2000 ITR with 83K for 10,500 last summer but I sank $2,000 into tires, alignment, tune-up, belts, etc. and I thought that was a killer deal at the time

Don't try to knock my awesome purchase by assuming that the car has salvage title or some other stuff. I don't know about the previous owner's crack addictions, but certainly know for a fact that the car has a clean title to boot! Carfax came back clean. A local Acura tech even did a full inspection of the vehicle and test drove the car. The inspection came back with 2 thumbs waaaay up. You guys can say whatever, but in the end......I did get a great deal. Nonetheless, there are more great deals out there.
Maybe, but you might have to be VERY VERY lucky to find such a great deal and be the first person to hear about it and able to hop on it. You could also end up looking for YEARS (and wasting a lot of time doing so) without finding such a deal...

Depends on what Average condition means. Hopefully the interior still looks good, it is up to date on all services, and paint is descent (only a few dings and scratches). I'd say 12k.
But then again, I'm sure a 97' in Excellent or Above-average condition w/ 180,000 miles could still get $10,000.
