Default Aluminum exhaust piping is it ok?

I've searched and read and couple of posts saying its ok, and a couple saying it'll melt? Well I just picked up a b pipe, that is made out of aluminum, it's just the b pipe part, and I was wondering if it'll be ok for a daily driven car? I've already coated it with high heat anti-rust flat black paint, plus I live in CA so I don't really have to worry about rusting too much.

I just wanted to know how well does aluminum piping work for a b pipe? Thank you.

we crunched some numbers and looked at the thermal properties of turbos and heat disipation and such, big factor is, what size is the piping? some of the SFWD guys are running 4 inch downpipes with an all aluminum exhaust. and i have even seen a 4 inch aluminum downpipe, from the math we did, it wont melt

Thanks for the reply. The piping is 2.25" The car is mostly stock normal I/E no header, still on stock exhaust manifold. The pipe will be hooked up to a stock CAT and Apexi WS axleback. Thank you

Are you sure you're not confusing aluminized steel with aluminum?

Truth be told im not sure if it's aluminized steel or not. Here are the pictures:

I painted most of it with the anti rust paint, but left this part unpainted so I can get the flange welded on, maybe you can tell if it's aluminum or not in this pix?:

Here's the only reason why I think it's aluminum:

Any help would be awesome Thanks again guys.

So it looks to be aluminized steel? Also should I sand that rusted part? Like would it be harder to weld on a new flange because it's rusted? thanks.

it's aluminized steel.

you should grind or sand the rust off especially if you're having it mig or tig welded.

We have 10' sticks of that pipe at work. IMCO is the company that makes it.
I'm not a fan of crush bent piping but hey...

Too bad I don't know where to find decent priced 4" mild steel mandrel bends. We have a 10' stick of 4" at work, pretty cheap too....oh well.

Is it crush bent? Yes.

Small piping? Not at all. It's 2.25" ??? That's SMALL? Engine is a mostly stock SOHC besdies I and E, no Header.

How would my stock one flow better?

yea 2.25 is pretty small, combine that with the crush bends and the internal volume is less than a 2 or even 1.5" pipe

You aren't going to find good 4" mandrel bends easily. However you can use 4" SCH 5 pipe. A smidge heavier, but tight radius.
