Exhaust pipe size
I've got a 93 DX hatch. I want to weld a new length in my exhaust after the cat, but I don't know what size pipe to get. How do I figure this out without a guage?

Re: Exhaust pipe size (Employee24)
I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want to extend the piping length or do you want to replace all the piping after the cat?
Also, what's done to the car, and what are your goals?

STOCK NA: 2.25 inch stainless steel piping should be fine.
SMALL+Low Boost Turbo/Supercharger: 2.5 inch
Making more than or around 300HP: 3.0 inch

Re: Exhaust pipe size (Employee24)
Right now I'm not planning any mods. I really can't afford it. All I'm trying to do right now is keep my car is great shape on a budget. What's happened is my exhaust pipe has rusted off at the cat. The rest of the pipe is fine, so I figured it would be easier to just weld a new section on than take the whole thing off and replace it.

Just get a 2" piping, or 2.25 if it's a similar price.
stock exhaust is 1.89" so either will be an improvement. If you're looking for power, opt for a header over a catback.

If he has no intention of modifying the car, 2" is probably his best bet.

I got a question but I didn't want to post anew thread cuz ppl dont like it, so I thought I'd just bump this one. If I get some bolt-ons from ebay for my d series, will I get an increase in hp? I've got an intake and I'm not planning on boosting it anytime soon. My goal is as much horsepower an NA d series can produce. thx

That is going to take a lot of work.... and money....
Ebay bolt-ons can increase power output, but the gains will be minuscule. The most noticeable change will be your car sounding like ****.

Hahaha thats what I thought... BTW if I DO get new pipes, and I dont want them to sound like a pissed off bumble-bee, would a silencer do much?

So I should wait untill maybe I get a new engine? Probably huh.

Re: Exhaust pipe size (Romo Pyro)
A silencer might muffle the sound a little bit, but it will still sound like ****. Unless you're building a dedicated track car, invest in a decent muffler. A resonator will also help to clean up the sound a little. Lastly, leave your catalytic converter in place. Removing it will make the car louder, and it will smell and pollute. Once again, this is assuming the car will be street driven.
If you're going to get a new engine, then yes, you should probably save your money for later.
