bad head gasket on d16a6-what should i replace it with?
i just picked up a 1990 civic ex sedan for 100 dollars in GREAT shape from an older lady, had new tires and a month old exhaust that she showed me reciepts for(plus you can tell they are new). car has high mileage but it started and ran fine for 30 seconds to move out of her driveway to the tow truck-no issues.
i want to just replace the head gasket for now until the spring when i am going to swap in my old motor. i was thinking of using the d16y8 two layer head gasket instead of the a6 head gasket. what do you guys think? suggestions?
thanks

just replace it with a stock head gasket. and if it blows again, get the head milled. Head gaskets are cheap and dont take very long. If you are lazy and rich, just the head milled and get some arps while you are at it.
Stock head gaskets are plenty strong, its the head studs that arn't.

Have the head sent out and looked at. They'll usualy resurface it for pretty cheap if you have them go through it and put new valve steem seals and such in it. Def. worth your time while your there.
Just use an OEM head gasket.

The Y8 gasket is the one to use. Its metal and you wont have to scrape of the material like the old A6 gaskets were. And the Y8 gasket is actually half the cost of the original A6 gasket from the dealer.
