D15B7 - Head Gasket Questions
I am about to start a DIY head gasket change, would it be wise to order the parts AFTER dis-assembly in order to see if the head needs milling to make it straight?
It's a 1995 Honda Civic LX with the stock D15B7, 130k miles. I was thinking of going with the D16Y8 head gasket which is MLS, but not sure if that would be a problem in any way.
My Dad thinks that the thinner gasket combined with the possibility of a head milling will give me too much of a compression to run regular gas.
The head gasket is leaking compression into the coolant jacket. It was analyzed by a shop with a 5 Gas Analyzer.
My Dad and I are DEFINITELY not engine mechanics, but we have some experience with cars. Any advice by you guys would be much appreciated before we get ourselves into something we can't get out of.
Thanks in advance,
Dana

Re: D15B7 - Head Gasket Questions
Just get a B7 head gasket if the head needs surfaced mill 0.0020 off and leave it at that its not going to raise the comp that much as long as you dont take too much off it

Re: D15B7 - Head Gasket Questions
I just had my D15B7 rebuilt, decked both the head and block, I'm pretty sure they used a Y8 gasket kit. It seems to run ok so far (700 miles on it).

Re: D15B7 - Head Gasket Questions
i used a d16z6 permatorque MLS headgasket from autozone it has 3 metal layers held on by 2 revits, drill out those 2 revits buy some copper spray, i sprayed each layer front and back (let them dry) layed them on the block carefully placed the head on the block (becarefull you cant do this on your own) dip the bolts in some oil (little bit dont dump it in there shake it couple times before throwing it in) torqued each one in the crisscross pattern that is explained in any haynes manual or honda manual. i drove that car on a 8 hr drive after with no problems. just get the head resurfaced to be safe and you should be good to go.
