Default automatic transmission shifting

i have a 2000 civic, with a 4-speed automatic transmission. i know that downshifing helps deceleration and cornering, but at what speeds should i downshift/upshift?

wrong

if you got an auto and you shift into neutral during long stops.. it takes load of the engine/tranny and saves gas

do a 5spd swap

its not really bad, but just not necesary? you're still gonna have to hold the break, just pull up e-break, and the only time its really bad is if you nuetral drop (rev in neutral and push into drive since u dont need to push button in), and if u wanan squeeze every bit out of it, just floor it when your think its gonna need to GO ahead.. example: goin into a turn slow down, then before you get to the point where you accelerate, floor it a little early since it will downshift for you, it still takes more time than being manual knowing when to do it, im sure theirs other ways to 'squeeze' everything out of it, but i drive manuel so wtf do i know

since theres no clutch to an auto, is it safe to "Shift" into neutral say when you are going 50mph in d4?

No clutch in an automatic? They work on practically nothing but clutches. Do not manually shift your automatic, it wears the clutch bands, put it in drive and go.
