Default Power and temp problem, new to Acura

I just purchase a 1995 Acura GS and I need to fix few problems. When I pull out the ecu code I find out the temps gauge was faulty. Could this affect my power and my fuel consumption? I can't go WOT or faster then 130km/h (80 mi/h). The engine temp goes up when the load on the engine increase, whether by going up hill or faster. When I go WOT the engine sound like to much air is going into it or not enough air, hard to explain, except that I have a big lost of power. It also smell gas from inside the car at idle, when running I can't really tell. I've look at the fuel line and nothing seems to leak.

The guy I bought the car from told me the engine has overheated twice, two hose failure (you can see those new hose). I have done few things already, I change the spark plug and wire, cap and rotor, air filter and I've correct the timing and the coolant level, plus the oil change. I also check the compression, but I have to do it again, cause I migh have done this the wrong.

I was thinking about changing the coolant temp gauge and the fuel filter, should I look at something else to fix my problems?

Thanks for your help!

head gasket, get a compression test done, two adjacent cylinders w/ low c/r will be a bad head gasket.

over heated twice!? thats not good, do the compression check again. maybe a warmed head.

OK, I've double check the compression, and everything look fine. What else could it be?
