Default strange high rpm activity in 92 hatch w/ b16. help me out

i finally got the b16 into my cx, but now it cuts off at about 7k. vtec comes on normally, and it pulls like it should. i believe redline is supposed to be around 8k, with peak power production around 7800. I have a jdm b16 and i believe im running a p30 ecu.

i know this is a wholly peripheral topic, but i just put a cluster in from an ex and i was thinking that it could be possible that the cluster was not reading correctly. highly unlikely, but possible i suppose.

I don't know, i checked all the grounds, the wirings fine and functional. the vehicle doesn't throw any codes and it drives fine so long as its under 7k. And when it hits 7k it feels like its hitting a rev limiter

help me out

sounds like the ECU is bad if it hits the rev limiter at around 7k. Thats close to what EK EX's hit. Maybe a remap would solve it.. or something in the wiring.. or you could just get a hondata ECU.

verify that you are actually running a p30 and not a chipped p28 or anything

maybe the person who had it before you set the readline at 7k ??

the ecu says p30 on the tag, and it is unchipped.

the ecu came out of the same front clip that the motor and trans came out of.

i know the ecu could be bad, but i wanna rule out everything else before i make that leap. it also seems kind of strange that the vehicle runs so well under all other driving conditions, anytime ive heard of an ecu being bad it would either act weird all the time or it would be a truly intermittent condition. The ecu is still my primary suspect though.

what are you using for a tach. my oem tach in my cluster is about 500 slow when I get to redline. so mine will appear to limit at 7500 but my vafc says 8000

im using a stock cluster out of a 95 ex. i thought that the tach could be off, but the vtec crossover seems correct. vtec comes on around 5300, so i kind of ruled that out.

id guess that around 5k the tach would be more accurate though, adn the disparity between actual and displayed rpms would get higher the faster you spin the motor.
