Bought my first used Honda, when does timing belt need replacing?
I just bought a 93 Accord EX with 163K for my daughter. I'm reading a lot of horror stories about timing belts breaking while driving and doing major damage to the engine. When do these belts typically need replacing?
I think honda recommends the timing belt every 80,000. My 91 ex had it done at 100k and i just turned 190K so I will be replacing the belt and some seals asap. Its a good idea to do the water pump at the same time. I've seen a w/pump seize up and snap a t/belt.

6 years or 90,000 miles.
6 years or 90,000 miles.
do u have any records from previous owner when t-belt was done ?? if not i would have it inspected ,,
Good Point. I would also suggest he should also entertain replacing the water pump, at the same time as suggested earlier. In addition I would also suggest the tensioner and counter shaft belt as well.
