if the engine is at tdc, what angle should the distributor be at?.....is there a mark on the distributor to determine tdc as well?

No, there is no mark on the dist.

If you are looking at the dizzy head on, the lower left point should be piston no. 1. That's where the rotor will be if the engine is at TDC.

You use the marks on the crank pulley to read the timing with a timing light. Don't forget to jump the connected under the passenger side of the dash while doing so.

If you can't do it, take it to auto zone. They should be able to do it for you.
