Default Need help with timing on 93 civic dx

Ok well my dad and I noticed that the timing marks were off a little bit the other day, so today we took everything apart and tried moving the timing belt one tooth, but now instead of the mark being a little to the right, its a little to the left. I have a chiltons guide, but it has no information concerning which timing marks (red or white) on the crankshaft pulley to use on models post-91. Rihgt now, we have it set with the red (3 notchs) mark. I read something about jumping the service check connector when using the timing light; what is this for?

any help would be great.. thanks
