How do you know when your transmission or your clutch is going bad?

How do you know when your transmission or your clutch is going bad?
Can anyone give experiences of when their transmission or clutch has failed on them. I'm trying to figure out if my problem is related to the trans or motor. Thanks

Well. First, I have an b18b in a 95 coupe. The car has a bit of a hard time going over 80mph. Sometimes it feels great, I mean strong.. At other times its drags to reach a certain speed. I don't know whats going on. If I need a new motor then I will get one, I just dont want to spend money on something that won't fix the problem. Thanks for replying.

I felt my clutch went bad when it was not engaging anymore when i step on it. It came to a point that I couldnt change gears anymore.

Do you see the RPMs raise and the speeds not going anywhere? If so then thats a slipping clutch. If your running an LS tranny then that could be normal.

The shifting is perfect or problem there. Just the inconsistent power the car is producing.

The rpm dial moves along with the speedometer, but very slow. It like driving a single cam when the other day you were driving a dual.
Strange right?
