OK techs, what the hell is wrong with my car?

driving last night all of the sudden the steering wheel starts shaking like my car has very bad alignment, i thought it was odd because it happened all of the sudden, not gradual or anything. i park the car for the evening, well today i have to drive from huntsville back to tuscaloosa ~2hr, when i get on the highway and go over 40 every time i let off of the throttle the steering wheel jerks like a dying fish for a second or two, there is a banging noise coming from the front. Then when i push the accelerator again, the same jerking motion starts but only for about a second, as long as i have my foot on the accelerator and dont let off then it rides fine, but everytime i let off/push down the steerring wheels jerks violently, then if i put it in neutral then the wheel shakes back and forth like a car in need of an alignment, so my question is, is this a simple bad alignment? or is somehting else messed up? i am gonna go get everything aligned and rotated tomorrow but i just wanted a heads up in case anything else is wrong, any thoughts? thanks

Try to tighten down those lugnuts. That's about what my car did when the front left wheel got loose at 120.....

even tho the tires are from a good company feel around them to see if you notice any lumps, maybe a belt snaped inside the tire. or when you have them rotated You should be there to inspect the tires also. be sure to feel the tire inside and out if you can...
hope I helped.

Jack her up in the air and check out those cv joints.. If your steering wheel is shaking, then the front wheels are darting from left to right... That's not alignment, cause alignment is a static problem ( always the same direction of pull ) Your problem is something is letting the front wheels wobble, like they needed to be balanced... only way more pronounced.
That could only be a few things, like loose lug nuts, bad rotors ( usually noticable under braking only ) damaged cv joint, damaged wheel bearing, loose or damaged suspension/bushings... get my drift...
It's really hard to diagnose over the net.. so good luck..
And don't drive far before you figure it out... very unsafe sounding..

Mine was doing the same thing. It was my axles. Could be those other things too.
Might wanna check the motor mounts. The banging when you let off the gas could be the motor. Ive had this problem before, it felt like the wheels were unbalanced. Just a thought.
my money's on The Axles being bad. one or maybe both. CV joint........ or bent axle.........
let us know what you find out!!

my friends car was doing that once, everytime he goes over 40 it would shake really bad, it ended up being the right axle was bent
well just to make things more interesting, now the car is driving just fine, i am abotu to go by the dealership and have them take a look but its so wierd but today is warmer than last night so maybe that has something to do with it
How about a wheel weight fell off.. not uncommon.
Check the suspension real good, for anything loose.. I would not drive it until I knew what it was. Dont want to lose anything at 65 or more..
