Default Auto retarding during rev... any ideas why?

B16a turbo obd0 setup, and when i give it gas, even a little it retards the timing... about 1.5 inches... sorry i can't be more precise, but the more gas i give it the more it retards. At idle it is just find though. Any ideas why it is doing this?

do you have the timing plug jumped? because if you dont, then your ecu is controlling that.

yeah, i suppose i should give more details when asking a question like that, when i use a timing light on the underdrive pully, the middle tick doesn't line up at all when i rev the car, it is fine at idle, but like i said as soon as i give it gas it moves up to 1.5 inches away... not sure in degrees, maybe 20 degrees... is that normal? any ideas?

if your car is knocking, then it will go into limp mode. which will most likely retard your timing a lot so you dont blow anything up.

It's advancing, not retarding the ignition timing.

It's supposed to do that!

yup, I looked at the timing numbers in Crome and above 1000 RPMs between 14-26 in/hg timing gets advanced from 16*BTDC to 21.75*BTDC, and at 2000 RPM's it is at 36* BTDC.

So yah that's normal. If it *was* retarding timing at idle and while reving it, you would have a really crappy idle/rev. But I'm sure that's not what's happening.

so it's nothing to worry about... as long as it is good at idle?
