Not really the right forum for this type of question....but i rev my current dohc ZC to ~9000 and its still making power. I reved my old 1.5 sohc/vtec to 9700rpms and it was still making power. Both these motors had JG pro-series heads and big jg cams.

I get scared revin' the 1.6litres much past 9000rpms because the rod/stroke ratio isnt very good. If you want to make a sohc rev to the moon, build a 1.5, the shorter stroke will help it up there. (just like my old 1.5 sohc/vtec motor)

What tranny were you using with the SOHC Liam? I ask because Marc's old SOHC would sping to 8500, but the tranny hated life over 7500.

I was using a Hydro ZC tranny (similar to a 92-95 SI) - and it wasnt too happy over 7500 i just had to be careful.

My Y8 tranny seems perfectly fine to about 7800-8000rpms.

Did you ever dyno? Where did the tq and hp dropoff?

The thing that sucks with the sohc is you don't have any real adjustements for the intake and exhaust lobes....your stuck with whats ground on the one stick. Ultimately thats whats gonna change your powerband and allow you to continue making more power up top. My peak whp was at 8.2k last time we dyno'd (I think).

You can't spell, talk right (cuz you speak some wacked out ****) and you certainly dont have a ******* clue about anything that has to do w/ motors, FI, and "Vtech yo" Will you just seriously do us all a favor, and take your 1,000whp civic that your boosting 35psi on and never return to HT?

Dude, look at what you just wrote. How can anyone possibly take you seriously? You're a joke. Your only here to represent? Represent what?...And you know your an idiot if you spell engine: ENINGINES. Hooked on phonics > you. You have nothing to offer any of us here on HT. I mean come on now, you said you have a motor boosting 35psi. Ive NEVER seen or heard that. Tell us your setup Mr. JDM

I took my last y8 setup to 8200 regularly but the tranny only lasted 6 months. After that, I couldn't even force the shifter into the next gear, it would just grind until the rpms dropped to about 7000.

Why doesn't everyone ignore him?

Just by responding to what he has to say feeds his fire.

His motive is simply to get people caught up. I actually find it funny too.

That is true with the sohc. With my d-series dohc, i have adjustable cam gears so i dont have that problem.

Here is the only higher hp dyno i have where i didnt have boost leaks or other problems, it was at 20psi of boost on 91 octane pump. I stopped the dyno at ~8000rpms but as you can see from the graph the power was still climbing.

I dont have a dyno of my old sohc
