Strange random smoke at idle....need some insight please.
Hi, I have a 96 Integra GSR Turbo, built bottom end, stock head, T3/T04e turbo, AEM engine management, bunch of other goodies. As of a few weeks ago, I'm getting this random smoke coming out the exhaust pipe, it's white in color, but doesn't have a coolant smell to it and I'm not losing any coolant. The smoke when it does happen, only happens at idle and it's pretty random. I did a compression test and it came out normal, no big differences between cylinders. The other thing I noticed is that when I do a hard run with full boost and let off the gas, I can smell oil burning, but then it goes away, think that might have something do do with my pcv valve sucking too much oil or something. I really need help with the smoke problem, it's getting pretty embarassing sitting in traffic and smoke billowing out my tailpipe. Thanks in advance for any help. Also, the only thing i really changed in the past few weeks is gutting my high flow catco cat and added cam gears. (was smoking before camgears and gutting cat)

are u running an oil restrictor on the turbo? if not, theres too much oil pressure going to the turbo and it like leaks through the seals or some sh*t like that. same thing happened to my cousin and all he did was get a restrictor and it didnt happen again
It's a lot of smoke when it does happen, and no I don't have an oil restrictor, but it doesn't smell like oil burning. I'll probably order one soon just to give it a try.
Just ordered one from ATPturbo, might as well give it a shot, freaking ripoff at 14 bux plus 10 bux for shipping, wonder if they are gonna use rocks instead of packing peanuts

Are you using synthetic oil? I've seen Mobil1 produce white smoke.
Since you have it more at idle, what's your PCV setup?

Nope, not synthetic, I'm using Castrol GTX 10W-40. My PCV system is the stock setup, no catchcan, I pulled out the PCV valve and it still rattles, but I guess it could be leaking anyways. I was planning on getting the Z10 catchcan setup as soon as they get back to me on pricing and some questions I had.

Hmmm. Don't know how much more I got. The reason I asked about the PCV valve is that it'll be closed when you're under boost. Then when you get back to vacuum, you may have quite a bit of pressure built up so that it blasts all those vapors into your IM all at once.
