Default pulled speedo cable out of firewall, how do i fix it??

i saw i had some fluid on the end of the speedo cable, so i wiped it off without thinking and pulled the cable out of the sheath about 6". i shoved it back in and put the other end in the tranny but my spedometer won't work. should i pull it out of the tranny again and try to shove it back into the firewall or do i have to take of my cluster to put it in??

Make sure you push it all the way back in, at little bit of twisting may be necessary.

cool, so it should just push back into the cluster from inside the engine bay?

well i dont think that it popped out of the guage cluster because its clipped in to the cluster. i would take it out and make sure it didnt snap. then push it in all the way until it wont go in any farther and you should be good. if that doesnt work the cable is broke somewhere. hope that helped.

was it working before you pulled it from the car. if not the cable is broken. i dont see why you take the whole thing out just because thier was oil on it why not just wipe it off . its kinda of trickey to reinstall the cable push it all the way down and push the retainer it locks in and go try it should work and you can take some wire and push it in from the engine bay to inside the car take the end of it tape to the tranny cable and pull it thought the fire wall

this is basically what i did

i pulled it out about that far, maybe even a couple of inches more. so i should just shove it into the fire wall and then stick it into the tranny? and yes it did work before.
