Default Any REAL way to tell if an axle is bad?

Hey I am getting a knocking noise from one fo my axles. Im not sure exactly which but becuase the noise only occurs when turning left im assuming its my right axle (based on weight transfer).

I plan on swapping the axle tomorrow- my question - is there anyway to tell for sure if its the right axle or left other than just listening and guessing where the sound is coming from (right/left)?

thanks

look for physical damage...tear at boots or grease...near wheel or tranny

I think its your ball joints..worn to crap..get the car up and cheak all joints for bad bushings(rips too)..check wheel bearings too..with car up..grap the wheel and jiggle it..if you can feel movement..well, you got a prob....alignment when done if you can.

do a search on wats here....others went through the same thing...like i am now lol

there's an easy way to tell. Find a parking lot or large open area and turn your wheel all the way in one direction and drive around in a circle. Then repeat this in the other direction and then in both directions in reverse. Listen really carfully for any noise coming from the drive axles. You're right about the weight transfer. If you hear it while turning hard right, it's probably your left axle. I'd just replace both of them if you can.

yeah ill check those things- the ball joints were fine wheni dropped teh car off to be swapped.

Based on what ive been reading i think the inner cv joints on the passenger side are done. Cause its midly vibrating and then making clinking sounds when turning.

I will check the bearing tho- where are the ball joints specifically?

and is was fixed after my boot, that didnt make any noise at all..
every thing is nice and tight but I get a thud so im guessing bald tires spots(locked up tires once like 2 weeks ago)

dont wanna steal your thread..but suming to look into...

BTW..ball point is basicly behind the rim at the top
