vin number and problem... advice?
okay heres my problem...
i bought a legit block from a honda-tech member on here and i sent it to get resleeved be a very, very, well known sponser on here. well, while they had the block for sleeving, i also had them beadblast the block to give it that new look. the beadblasting took the green paint off the vin tag and now theres no number there.
what can or should i do about this matter?
BTW: i have the bill of reciept from the seller along with pics before the blasting, which shows the vin tag and block number.

the reason why im pretty worried, is the fact that i have to run my vehicle through washington state patrol and i dont want them trying to take my car away due to the vin plate being blasted off. the vin tag looks curled up on the edges from heat or something...
im going to contact the sleeving company and see what they have to say about this. should i have them wright up a statement saying that the blasted it off and that they assume responsiblity for it?

Yes, its an unfortunate situation in that you've had to deal with the cops before.
But frankly its not the place that did your work's fault!
Its too late now in any case, just give the cops the whole story as needed and keep your pics with the receipt.

why would it not be the manufacturers fault? for something important as vehicle ID number they should know not to beadblast it off.
thanks for the replies zygspeed

exactly.... so wouldnt they be at fault for beadblasting the vin number off?

I just commented to someone in an IM that it's your own fault for not thinking of this ahead of time, and that therefore you're SOL!

They didn't remove the tag.
The simply performed the service you asked them to.

ok i give up... i guess in my mind, a reputable engine sleeving company would know to cover the vin number on the lower portion of the engine block prior to beadblasting it. due to the importance of the vehicle identification number. i did not know they offered this service until they "OFFERED" it to me. with that said... i would assume they knew what they were doing. oh well... i guess ill call them on monday and see what they have to say about.
again thanks zygspeed.
just curious... why would you do this:

Because someone IM'd me about the comments I'd made in this post, and I replied.
Frankly, I'm not particularly a fan of GE in that they messed up sleeving my turbo motor, and the moron in charge of the job didn't send it back when the problem was discovered in spite of the warranty, ... the same one I got not receipt from.
I'm going to have to take the motor apart and probably either have it re-sleeved, or the top of the block shaved because of the dropped sleeve.
Just can't trust almost anyone nowadays.

I've talked to a few auto theft task force police and they told me it doesn't matter if it has a VIN or not as long as you can prove that you have some legitimacy in it such as receipts, names and numbers. Nothing to sweat

Probably. The original poster should probbly go out of the way to find out what the rules of enforcement are in his state and his locality, and I would certainly take the precaution of carrying copies of receipts for the purchase of the motor and even a copy of a receipt for the bead blasting.

When are you going? You have the paperwork. Your golden. I can call some stater buddies and maybe they can tell the inspectors your situation. I don't think it's necessary though. You should be okay.
oh ok thanks brando! that would be great. inspection wont be for awhile, so do you think i can just bring the block to WSP sometime this week to get it checked out by them? possibly get something written down, saying that it was inspected?
i just dont want to bring it there and have them take it or something.

I'm glad your putting so much effort into this. I don't see why you couldn't do this. All they will do is run the vin then update the registered owner to said vin.
All your going to need to do is take every single ORIGINAL document you have that concerns anything to do with that motor. Remember to be courtious. The Washington State Patrol is very military oriented. Don't relenquish more information than you need to. Simple Yes sir/mam - No sir/mam is fine.

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but what if you contacted the member to see if if possilby has the vin number?
I've never heard of this happening before, but if they are generally building these blocks for race purpose, it may be a standard procedure (to blast the block entierly), or they may assume this is for offroad use'.

Imola bro, I just called the Acura dealer for ya...
Well, actually, they don't have those, and they're not sure if they can be made again or not but maybe if you contact Honda. However, I have a solution and I'll PM u with that.
