Default Gauge location suggestions

I don't have the cash now, but I am considering placement of future gauges and wanted to see what you guys think. I don't want pods on the pillar.

Installed in yellow vertical dash area (is it even possible or are the windshield vents in the way?)

With a cover on the red horizontal area?

Or somewhere else?

Do you need your windsheild defroster in Texas? If not just go with the yellow spot...

We do. However, It would only take a bit of the vent. I would need to see what it looks like behind there first, though, as there may not be enough room. Has anyone else put gauges there?

I have seen them placed ON the dash in the little tray area, that was in order to keep the vents clear (the red area in your photo).

I have also seen them placed where the center air vent used to be on the front of the dash. It was a custom hard/vinyl part that housed two 2" gauges (oil pressure and voltage, I think) and an indicator light between the two made from a red LED. That looked real sharp, but that car did NOT have A/C so it was no big deal.

I am certain that as long as you put aftermarket gauges in a vehicle that were not designed for them, there will always be problems unique to that location's placement. Just get creative, and put them where you feel they will be of the most use with the least compromise.

I definitely need my A/C so I don't want to eliminate any vents. Thanks for the feedback guys.

There's plenty of space to work with above the glove box.

But that might be to far away, but its always a option

hey in my 88 std, I placed my 2 inch tach (my car didnt have a tach and i didnt want to swap clusters) right there. it's an awesome spot, easy to see without taking most attention away from the road while hauling a$$. in my car there wasn't a separate plastic piece for the vents system; it seems like in my std that part of the dash was also the vent system (i hope im not confusing anyone). There’s a snug, tight fit with the guage and the dash = no air leaks / my vent system works fine. For the wiring, I had to drill a hole (very tiny) into the vent system right where the air controls are and I used my cherry picker (the name I gave to my computer wiring tool that’s about 15 inches long with 2 different size hooks on each end) to get the wires through; once again, there isn’t any leaks… before I go, mine are located within the yellow!

Could also get summin like this:

And either mount it next to your rear view mirror or sorta under the dash.
Nice to keep it out of sight of thieves and ****. Also when I used to have my Autometer monster tach at the base of the A-pillar it wasnt too flattering when you would get pulled over.

i like those two places...but that's just my opinion. i'd do the vent area only if the crx wasn't an Si. i believe Si's are the only model that comes with the clock...i'd say keep the clock.

EDIT: why do you need gauges? also, if you want to keep them hidden, install the gauges in the glove box... i think it's easy to do. take a piece of styrafoam or thin piece of wood (light weight) and cut it to fit in the glove box. then cut out how ever many holes to you need. cover it with some sort of interior material and plug and place the gauges. also, if you're planning on installing any controllers...such as vtec or safc, boost, ect. you can put those in there also and it'll be easier to hide the wires and be close to the ECU. y0!

i put my gauges in the yellow spot. i made some custom angle rings out of 2"pvc pipe and molded them into the dash for a ulta sweet look. i will post a pic of it if i can find one. if you need any help in making them if you go this route just ask

i understand that feeling i had my cd play taken twice in a month. so i out smarted the theives by making a cover panel out of the spare parts i had laying around. i took my factory radio apart for the face plate only so when the car is parked it looks like i just have a factory radio. all i had to do was mount the radio back 1/2" to make look factory. you could do the same with the climate controls go to the salvage yards and get a climate control box take it apart and super glue the ***** on so it looks factory. hope this helps

Learn to use fiberglass and make a custom enclosure on the dash in front of yellow, on top of red. This will not destroy what appears to be a completely stock interior and you can customize until your heart's content.

"learn to use fiberglass"? That would take quite awhile to get good at it.
