i'm about to buy a zc engine

wats the best way to check an engine if it's not in the car itself, what sort of things can i look at to determine if the engine is in decent condition

 

pressure test...

 

compression test.. take off the valve cover just to see color of the oil to get an idea if it was changed freq..

 

how do i do a compression test without the engine being in the car?

 

Easy you get a Pressure Gauge and check just like you would if the engine was in the car. And like shepworldwide said I would check the oil that's in there to check if it's been changed alot or not. I would also take out the spark plugs and check them and also check the piston heads.

 

ok so i know how to do the compession test normally

but when the engine is out, how do i crank it?

and how do i apply Wide Open Throttle?

 

You crank it by getting a socket and a long rench and turn the crankshaft by it's pully or you can spin the flywheel.
