Just started happening. A couple of times when I was driving the car would shut off but still stay powered. (I.e. radio stays on) No when I start it, it fires up right away, then stalls. What could be causing that? I have a 94 H22 Prelude with an SRI and exaust. It has 163K on the engine. What could be the problem?

 

Oh, it's not throwing any CEL's. I just started it again, ran like 5 mins then shut off.

 

Hmm....if it's not throwing codes, obviously it's gonna be hard to diagnose.

I would start by checking all of the usual suspects for fuel and spark/ignition.

 

when were the spark plugs last changed?

 

definately not the spark plugs...does the car run smooth before it shuts off? and when it shuts off does it stumble and surge and then die or does it just instantly shut off as if you turned the key off. if it stumbles n such then dies its most likely the fuel. if it instantly turns off you must be loosing spark. if you were to start the car, let it run for five mins or so until it quit, then immediately started it up would it run for another five mins or for a few seconds or not at all?

 

Would not having a filter on ur CAI cause this?

I just looked under my hood for the first time in a cpl weeks and I see that the 2nd half of my CAI was missing!!! I was wondering why VTEC sounded so much nicer. I guess the 2nd half fell off sometime when I was driving, I never knew tho. So basically I guess I've been driving around with a SRI now with no filter. Don't know how long it's been like that. YIPES! Anyway I just slapped a filter on my CAI now SRI and the stalling has stopped. Is that the problem you guys think or was it something else?
