I'm posting for a friend...I don't know anything about SOHC ZC's so please forgive me...
I need very quick help with a piston issue...basically, all I need to know is what pistons do I use out of a USDM 1.6 SOHC in this SOHC ZC block. I need them to be stock compression if at all possible. I need this answer quickly and I will continue searching...all of this going into a EF hatch.
thanks people, this motor has to figured out by friday for my friend. I appreciate the help.

so there will not be any clearance issues or ANYTHING with this. that's awesome...and makes my life EASY.
thanks guys.

thats not true. the sohc zc does have a more aggressive cam, but it also has different pistons. the d16a6 has flat top pistons and the sohc zc has domed pistons giving it a higher compression ratio

hmmm well the sohc zc motor i just sold had domed pistons. from what i've read, and believe me it was hard to find.. the single cam uses the same pistons as the dual cam zc.. i have yet to pull apart one of the 2 dohc zc's i currently have sitting in my shop, but i do plan on getting another sohc zc, so perhaps i can pull both apart and do a comparison
i find it hard to believe that the cam alone adds 20hp

obd2 SOHC ZC's had 9.4 compression. all other single cam ZC's had the same 9.1 CR as A6, which are more common due to age.

its not 20hp difference. nominally, its about 10hp difference (118hp-108hp), but A6 is clearly underrated by the factory anyway. also consider the exhaust manifold is different (4-1 vs 4-2-1). so the difference is much less than 20hp... and then, this is ONLY comparing MPFI engines. the carbed ZC is another unique cam.

my sohc zc can beat DOHC ZC all day long...i/h/e......mine came with pm7 pistons....dohc pistons......so sum sohc zc's do come with domed pistons...so whoever thinks they dont do more research buddy...i will take my head off and take pics for u...i bought the engine like that.....i have not done anything to it internally at all.....ive heard these zc's r hard to find...
sohc zc's DO come with domed pm7 pistons
dohc zc's also come with domed pm7 pistons
d16a6's came with flat top pistons

Um the only thing differen't is the cam on an A6??, wtf. So you mean to tell me that the d15b2 88-91 DX motor also had a iron main bearing assembly on the block also?. EDIT: I forgot to add, i wouldn't think the D15b2 is as STRONG as the D16a6, or at least i don't think so?.

Again, the only difference is the camshaft. If you have other pistons they were added at a later point. Just because you purchased the motor and didn't touch does not mean someone else down the line didn't fiddle with it. The CR is exactly the same so if there are domed pistons like the DOHC ZC the combustion chamber would match the DOHC heads. If it didn't, the compression would be nice and up there.
