Distributor Parts Functionality
in the distributor cap, there is a springed nipple that touches the rotor while spinning to fire the plugs in its firing order, correct. for some reason, that nipple has been worn down and not there anymore. i recently felt a loss of power/hesitation so by luck, i got it on the first try. im just trying to get some opinions to accept or reject that the issue could be coming from teh cap. ive already ordered another cap, pt#8292. ideas, thanks.

You can run tests to check the coil and ignitor functionality as far as their voltage wise, if you have a helm you can look it up. Most likely from what you're describing it sounds like its the cap though, do the rotor at the same time as well, they're usually stocked at the dealers.

Which reminds me.......is it common for the distributor rotor to have a brownish discoloration on it?
