Default Ignition management

I just had a few questions regarding ignition upgrades with a control box.

What I was thinking was like an MSD 6, or Accel Fireball, something to that nature.

When you use something like that on an 0BD0 vehicle, does it manage the spark instead of the ECM, or does it go inline with the ECM.

The reason I ask is because I have been having some major, possibly terminal issues with my stock Ign set up, and have spent well over $600 trying to replace stock parts, and harnesses. I need something that will work with little trouble, and in place of the ECM if possibble.

In case your wondering, I have an old Subaru wagon, with a new JDM turbo engine. I am asking here because most of the people on the old Subaru sites are fucktards, and have no clue what they are talking about.

Thanks.

i believe those only alter teh spark. i had one on my old school '83 volvo and since it installs between the coil and teh spark plugs, that is the only thing it can mess with. and i never had any problems.

Anyone else? I have a MBC, TMIC, and everything ready to go. Imagine something like this running in the low 14's-high13's.

I have done A LOT of work to this car, and now I am stumped.

HAHAHAHA, that's ******* awesome!

Anywho, the ignition boxes take the trigger from the stock ecu, so it will have the same timing curve. They then add a lot more duration to the spark, in an effort to help with combustion.

There are aftermarket ignition control systems that allow you to do your own maps, some searching will yield results, if that's what you want.

If you find that its your ecu giving you problems.
