Please read thoroughly as I dont want any snide comments about searching and such. Already did that, of course. Okay, jolly good.
So here's the current set up on my 94 Integra:
Megan 4-2-1 header
Resonated straight pipe
2.25" piping
and a RSR Ex-Mag muffler.
Delicious. But due to the test pipe and 2.25" piping, I sound like a bit of ****** and that's not very proper at all. Im want a very, very mellow tone with just a touch of deep bass. Think stock 350Z or ITR.
Here's what I bought today for $40:
Stock cat
stock piping w/ stock resonator
stock muffler.
Now, what Im thinking is to mix and match parts to get that very mellow sound. This is what I have in mind:
Option 1) stock cat, stock piping w/ resonator, and RSR exhaust.
Option 2) Stock cat, 2.25" piping, stock resonator, and RSR exhaust.
Option 3) Just go all stock, sell the RSR, and sit down for a spot of tea and a crumpet.
I imagine option 2 would tickle my fancy. Seems like it would be a good compromise, quiteness but still not as restrictive as a fully stock setup. What do you chaps think? I really would like to keep the Ex-Mag, but I dont mind going back if necessary. Also, Im not too concerned with h.p. loss since my current engine build will more than compensate for any losses. Any input would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Yeah, I wish I had the full RSR cat back, but I was got the RSR muffler for free. Since I couldnt say no to that, I went with it and just had the muffler shop make 2.25" piping and weld my straight pipe into place.
I mean, I know it's the straight pipe thats causing my RSR to perform louder than it should. Plus the real RSR catback come's with a additional silencer, which I dont have.
I dont know....I really want the quietness of stock...but I hate that ugly, heavy, stock muffler...plus I feel insane gettind rid of my Ex-Mag.
I just dont know

try putting on the stock cat. that should change it up a bit.

yeah, stock cat...I'll put that one for sure. I went to smog my car...supposedly a "hookup". The guy was like, oh sure no problem, $150. I thought, Sweet!
Then I get a call 2 hours later, the guy is like "We cant do it. your car is spewing way too much hydrocarbons (or whatever). I can still pass it, but it will be $250."
Forget that, I'd rather put my cat on anyways, the h.p gains are insignificant compared to the constant noise I have to put up with.

hey i got a rsr cat back...its awesome sounding..all u hear is the engine..also, i would look into getting a high flow cat, instead of using the stock...it really restricts air...i should know..been there, and sill there, but im getting my high flow back tho

YES! That's what I want, I just want to hear the engine! On your RSR piping, is it 2.25"? If so, I might just keep my piping and install the cat and resonator.
rather than just an RSR exmag, get the RSR piping, and get a high-flow cat, there's no need for a test pipe. The resonator that comes with the RSR exmag is designed for it, almost like they want you to use it, almost like it's a system.
I had a Greddy 4-2-1 header, with a high flow cat, and a cat back RSR exmag and i did not sound like "a ******" whatever that hell that sounds like.
I sounded like a B.A.M.F.

******...it's very Brittish, you see...commonly referred to as a "fookin ******".
Anyways, yeah I would love to get my hands on the RSR piping but as far as I know, it isnt sold separately.
So...
I guess I'll just go with the stock cat, my 2.25 piping, and OEM Honda resonator. This sounds retarded though, the OEM Honda resonator will create a bottle neck...but ah well...at least it will be hush hush.

My current set up is this: B18b motor, JDM ITR pistons, regrind cams, megan header, and my previously discussed exhaust set up.
The engine Im working on as I type this, which is no easy task, is going to be a ls/vtec with JDM ITR Pistons, balanced rotating assembly, ITR cams, ITR 4-1 header, B16 head fully port/polished, ITR valvetrain, HKS three puck clutch and pressure plate, CTR N1 pully, and Hondata ECU....yeah, I guess that's about it. So with this set up, I'll be beyond the 200 BHP mark, even if I ran a full stock exhaust. That's why I really dont mind if I got back to stock, I'd still reach my goal. Sure, I'd have even more h.p with a less restrictive exhaust...but peace of mind of not attracting cops is priceless.

Right now with my current set up all I hear is intake. I am running a Toda header, carsound high flow cat, and a Fujitsubo RM-01A cat back. At idle it sounds nearly stock, and wide open all you hear is intake. Even while cruising you can talk to the passenger without yelling.
