Default transmission problem weird whining/clucking noise

well my problem started a few days ago...ive searched and found nothing about my problem, most of the stuff that came up was either not going into gear/popping out or a burnt clutch

so anyways, at first i thought it was the motor making the noise kinda sounds like a bent/snapped valve but car wouldnt work if that was the case.

it seems like the noise only occurs when im in gear and accelerating, like clack clack clack type of noise LOL and the faster i go the quicker the noise gets and also when im idling it makes a high-pitched whine but when i engage the clutch, the whine goes away

thinking it was the motor, i threw it into neutral and let the car coast and it sounded fine...revved in neutral still sounds fine...

as the days go by, the sound seems to get louder and louder but that just might be because im actually trying to listen for it...

a friend of mine suggested that it might be a bearing problem in the tranny...throw-out bearing? wheel bearings? how much would this cost to fix...

well its really getting to me and it seems pretty unhealthy for the car. i would stop driving it, but the car is my daily and i have work and school...

if anyone can help me with my problem, please do...really would appreciate it

will be swapping pretty soon just looking for the right motor, but for the time being i would like this to get fixed because i dont feel like paying for a tow truck to come get my *** and take me home when i get stranded somewhere... ::knock on wood::

o yea its a 96 civic with a stock motor/tranny d16y7 i believe...

in my d16 i stated to hear a rattling noise, im not sure if this will apply to yours but anyway i took off the transmission and a nut and bolt fell out, so i looked around and it was one of the 5 bolts that hold my pressure plate on. Maybe that will help

I have the same problem, I changed my clutch pad, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing... still makes the noise. It's probably something internal. Its been making the noise for a few months now, havent had any issues. I would say just leave it until the swap

I've learned a lot reading from your posts as well. I also dropped a few messages a couple of years ago about my tranny woes. You da man! lol.

parts are $35, then$300-$400 to install. Takes a good 5-6 hours to pull tranny, open it up, replace bearings and inspect the rest, seal tranny, reinstall tranny.
