Default gt28rs or gt2871 for my d16 motor?

i will be getting one of these. i don't know what to decide. i really want to have quick spooling response but also achieve 300 hp on my setup. this is a daily driver, i wouldn't call my car a race car. what turbo would you guys choose and why?

d16z6 motor

block:
9.1 compression pistons
scat rods
darton sleeves

cylinder head:
1 mm larger intake valves
polish swirl intake valves
crower valve springs
crower retainers
crower cams
port and polish head
port and polish intake manifold
rpm 68mm throttle body
aem cam gear

my current turbo set up:
drag manifold
turbonetics t3/t4 turbo
2.5 inch intercooler piping
drag fmic
750cc injectors

For a non-race car, daily driver you want optimum response and biggest powerband. How about gt28r.....fastest spool/resonse compared to those two bigger compressors, and is still capable of 300whp. With the rs or 2871r you lose powerband for greater peak power over 300, especially on a d series I would think.

GT28RS if you're only looking for 300 WHP, it'll do that easy, plus it'll spool very fast. I used to run one on my B16 and it is my favorite turbo for a street car.

GT28R or GT28RS with a 0.64 A/R turbine.

Who cares about 10 hp up top when you're really after response and a broad powerband? The tighter turbine will spool up much quicker than the 0.86 A/R T25 laggy housing. We're talking 500+ RPM more usable powerband for having a little less power up top at the same boost. An easy tradeoff when you aren't trying to shoot for every bit of power.

IMO, the GT28RS with the 0.86 A/R housing is a mismatched turbo - too much turbine flow for the compressor wheel.

Jeff Evans would tend to disagree with you.

In that dyno graph from the Jeff Evans thread the 15psi run shows peak torque around 5400 rpm and only an 1800 rpm powerband from peak torque till redline at 7200rpm and its only making like 285whp or so.

Even a gt28r will make 300whp, so why not get that? It is supposed to have the quickest spool/resonse/powerband out of those by quite a bit, and it still meets your goal.

How much of a difference in spool time is there with the following?

gt28r (~300hp max)
gt28rs (~350hp max)
gt2871 (~400hp max)

Im guessing i have the ruff power outputs close enough to be correct.

the GT28R / GT28RS / GT2871R all do not come standard with a drop-in. ATP Turbo has created their own turbine housing which around around $400. I'm getting my GT28RS w/ .63A/R T3 housing from Precision via "Arturbo" w/ the InlinePro mani for my B18C1, but for my Z6 i'm installing the standard GT28R w/ a HKS mani
