okay first this is what started happening, drivign along warm or cold, the car would just shut off, no engine lights, no codes nothing. everything else would still work, like radio headlights etc. the only indication i had that the car shut off was that my door locks would unlock, ( i have anti hijacking on my alarm so the doors lock/unlock when that car starts/shuts off). if i start the car while roling it would start right back up as if nothing was wrong, it did this intermittently. then one night it took about three attempts to start up, then it got progressivley worse till one day it took nearly 20 tries to start up, it did, got me home and here it sits. BTW when it eventually started up i smelt lots of gas, so the fuel was pumping.

the car turns over, runs for like a second then dies, consistently does this over and over.

the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignitor are all a year old so i thought it may be the distributor, got a used one from a running car, and it still does the same.

anyone have any ideas? someone already mentioned the main relay, but would it even start if it was the main relay? and also remember everything else seems to work fine.

went thru two different ignitors as i went thru two different distributors.

wouldnt the main relay affect any other accesories like the radio etc?

didnt effect anything else on my car. might as well change it. it will go bad eventually and it is probally your problem

changed the main relay as well, no avail.

now i think the fuel pump isnt priming or turning on.


no codes as well, so guys i changed the distributor, with the ignitor, the main relay, and wont start.

does the fuel pump just up and quit? never ran out of gas on it, and the previous symptoms were when it shut off while driving, then when you turn the key it would start again, no lights, no codes.

before i could smell gas, not anymore.

the main relay you swapped in was bad... get a known good one and put that in and try it... youre not smelling gas anymore because the fuel pump is not turning on... the fuel pump is not priming because the main relay is bad... good luck man
