Default LS and ??? tranny do you recomend???

I'm puttin an LS mota in my coupe. I have the choice of either using a GSR tranny or a B16 with LSD on it. Now I like torque but I also like to cruise at 70mph + sometimes. What would you recomend in my dilema. experienced drivers wanted.

since you do 70mph+ a lot, i would take the gsr tranny but the lsd is nice... so it really depends. what is the mpg difference anyway?

i dont have any personal experience but i hear that the b16 trannys are more prone to breaking with an ls motor, but i think thats when they are heavily modified.

depends on what you want,if you can suck it up and take the worse gas mileage, defintaly go with the b16.

At 70mph I'm at 4k rpms with my B16 tranny. Gas wise, its actually not horrible. I still get 30mpg on highway which is weird.

My friend has been runnning a ls with b16 tranny setup for a while now (over 1.5 years) and he hasn't had any problems. Now he went turbo so we'll see

for the tourqe i'd go with the b16 shorter gear thats what i have with my b20 but it dosn't have LSD thats always nice but also if your crusing at 80 mph your at like 4k rpms with a b16 tranny so you jsut gotta pick one witch is more important?

I don't think it'd be worth it. Tranny's are a pain in the *** and ppl like screwing the customer. If you are going to do it yourself... just set aside a lot of time. As for the "will it work" I am not sure... I try to stay away from tranny's. ALL of them

Yes you can put a ls 5th gear into a b16 tranny and still have a lsd. If you like to drive free spirited in 5th gear then when you shift from 4th to 5th it will feel like hitting a wall. But it will be more fuel efficient and it will make less wear on your engine.

Trans work is easy, people just think they are and that is why techs like me make so much money. No, an ls 5th gear would not cause any problems at all. So I say if you feel like learning something, go nuts.

i highly agree. i have a built gsr with an itr tranny...and without the lsd, oh man, that would suck...

However, if you're not going to make this a heavy track car and have it be more of a cruiser, go gsr...

Do you think that it would be easy for someone without experience to go at it? I ask cuz my 2nd and 3rd gears grind. Wondering if it'd be worthwhile to replace the synchro/gear (if it's worn). Otherwise... I'll just keep matching the engine speed and shifting S-L-O-W

I have a LS trans on a semi-modded B16 (yeah yeah, I am going turbo soon) it's kind of fun, I can hold 3rd until around 110mph. Fifth gear at 3k rpm I am rolling at 82mph.
