Default HKS SSQ bov is causing a surge!

When i hit full boost, the bov makes a nice chirp sound... which is good.

If i get little amount (1-6psi), i hear a compressor surge sound. people say this sound is the bov and thats the sound it makes with lower boost.

BUT my compressor is facing the driver side and the bov is facing the pass side and i hear the surge on the driver side, so its the air coming back out the turbo.

any thing i can do to this thing?

The old HKS is adjustable but I wouldnt play with that. The stuttering sound at low boost is normal... I have that too and alot of other people running SSQV also have the same sound. I wouldnt worry about it.

1-5psi, my ssqv would make a surge sound too. but sometimes it's the bov under low boost. it's a dual stage bov. not too sure about the ssq.
small surge isn't a problem.

That's how it's supposed to sound like. Most "high psi" BOV's don't open up at low boost levels, and the low-mid range BOVs can't hold over 15psi. The HKS works both ways because of the sequential valving system. If you don't like it, you can always get a different BOV.

If the valve is working properly under high boost conditions but not at low boost conditions then the spring is too stiff for the vaccum your motor uses. Take a vaccum gauge at idle with the car completely warmed up. Once you get that value you can then choose the correct HKS spring for your application.

the newer HKS blow off valves dont have the adjustment bolt anymore. they probably got tired of people messing with it because of this reason.

i would say its normal. my HKS does the exact same thing......

my greddy type S had a small surge right before it went off at low boost...

i doubt its the same idea but

inside the greddy there are 2 springs.. a stiff one and a small one inside the stiff one...

i opened it up and took out the stiff one...

works like a charm now
