Obviously it can be done.

What do you want to know?

Get your steel, grab your welder, get your donor engine and car and get to work.

There will be no How-To if that's what you're wanting!

You buy whatever engine you want from whatever source you wish.

What is a VW guy to do when he wants more power better reliability and an exhuast note that is synonymous with "Your gonna get a beatdown". Take out his P.O.S. vw motor and swap in some VTEC.
That just proves the superiority of a honda motor.

atleast it was done on a 70's bug and not a split or oval window bug...

haha thats funny dissing technology from the 1940s. you cant even compare it with 1980s tech. its apples and oranges

vw flat fours can run 9s-low 11s allmotor currently (not sure if the 9s are allmotor or turbo), some without being gutted, full interior
there is also a type 4 (bus, or porsche 914 motor that can be a 3 liter, very reliable and do not have to be revved up high) but they arent really used for dragging, more for road racing, cruising at high speed on the autobahn (german highway). lots of torque

13b (mazda rx7 rotary) subaru (i forgot the code for the engine), ecotec (gm 4 banger) corvair (old school rear engine chevrolet) can also be swapped in. there are others but i cant think of them right now. unfortuantely, with the honda swap you have to cut up the luggage tray and some of the sleeper aspect unless you fabricate a new luggage tray. kennedy engineering sells the adapters to mount many things onto a vw tranny

oh if you want proof, go to http://www.cal-look.com
and look at the top ten or top 20 fastest they have

oh yeah i forgot to add, the vw engine has only 1 cam, and its not an overhead cam, 2 disadvantages right there. try running those numbers with a sohc non v-tech, non turbo. i meant the first v-tech in mass production (b16 released in some 1989 models i believe) in the last post

Not a vw hater, just a hardcore honda enthusiast. I have to agree with whoever said at least it was done on a 70's model vw. I simply was seizing the moment to praise honda motors. The bug I had sucked. I was constantly having problems with it over heating, and eventually gave up on it and bought my honda.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Didnt mean to cause a conflict.

I saw an old school Beetle, not a Super Beetle, with a B16A engine in it on Ebay years ago. The car looked all original except for the damn B16A sticking up and out of the back of the car without an engine cover/hood there. It was bad *** looking and very well put together, but there was no hiding that big-*** valvecover sticking out of the rear.

I won't go so far as to hate on the old air cooled flat 4 VW powerplants though, because there have been countless builds making sick numbers throughout history.

Will a fully built VW mill last as long as a good near-stock Honda B series?

No.

...but at least the VW engine fits without any drama.

yeah vw tranny.
yeah it ran and ran pretty good but believe it or not, we could never get the vtec to work.

now were no dummies we did this for crying outoud, but we swapped ecu's ran power directly to solenoid and it clicked over but nothing would happen. it just never worked. i think the head was no good. and there was oil pressure and all that variables and possibilities that you could think of, we tryed.
also proper cooling was kinda hard.

too bad about the Vtec not working however I'm sure it was still faster than the VW motor even without the vtec working.
