Default Help Needed Y8/Z6 Combo

Alright heres the story,I'm very close to finishing my new motor setup,I'm running a Built Y8 Block with a D16Z6 Head. The block and tranny are currently in my car and we TRIED installing the Z6 head tonight with no luck.I'm using Z6 ARP Headstuds and they don't come close to fitting at all.Theres a huge gap between the head and the threads which is not allowing me to even come close to being able to torque the headstuds down.

The ARP's did come with washers but even still with the washers there is a gap between the head and beginning of the threads on the ARP headstuds.I figured since I was using a Z6 head that I should of got Z6 Headstuds which I did,now I'm guessing that I should of got Y8 Headstuds since I'm using a Y8 block.

Has anyone else run into this kind of problem?I'm ready to pack it in and sell everything, this setup has been an ongoing process for a while now and I'm getting very tired of not being able to drive my car.If anyone can give me some much needed advice that would be appreciated a lot.

Thanks,

Adam

y8 and z6 block have a few studs that are different.. you'll have to buy 2 sets of rodbolts and use some from each.

So your saying that I need to purchase 2 sets of ARP Studs and thats the only way to do this swap with ARP's?If thats the case then screw it,I'll try and find a Y8 Head because I'm 100% not willing to buy 2 sets of ARP's then only use a few studs from each box thats a waste of studs and money

Its the simplest way, otherwise you'll have to get creative.

Well thats not the news I was hoping for .I guess I need to find a y8 Head then,if anyone knows one for sale then let me know. The shitty thing is that the Z6 Head has really low mileage on it and I didn't really want to spend more money, especially on a Head.

How much of a gap are we talking about here? If it is less than 1/2" and you have plenty of threads, grind them down to the proper length.

Or contact ARP and ask if you can get just the shrter bolts. Hmn, $80-100 for another set or $100-$150 for a used head...

Thats the thing, even if I was to grind them down it would do nothing, both ends are threaded.Even with the studs threaded into the block the studs sit way to high in the head and don't have enough thread to be able to torque the studs down at all, there is a gap from the head to the beginning of the thread that will not allow the stud to be torqued at all because you run out of thread which therefor does not allow you to torque the stud(hard to decribe).Someone else on here must of did this swap and ran into the same problem.I would love to know what they did as a solution to the problem.

I thought more people would of had input on this problem since I know I'm not the only one with this combo of head/block.Either way tommorrow I'll be picking up a set of Y8 ARP"s .If they don't work you'll see my entire setup for sale within the next few days

hey man i just finished my mini me but i put a z6 head on a y7 block.. i bought y7 head studs but ordered 1 z6 headstud straight from arp.. the one i ordered was because the y7's were too short to go in the hole right next to the vtec solenoid.. urs will prolly be the same.. get the block stud kit.. then order (1) from arp that goes with the head... thats what i did and i have no problems no leaks and im boosting.. so.. dont forget to remove the oil plug on the deck.. or no vtec for u... i hope this helps.. arp charged me like 10 bux for 1 shipped and im in ga and their in cali.. good luck pm with more ques...
