ok i use to have some subs back in the day when i had my 86 oldsmobile delta 88 royal it was a kicker comp 10inch in ported box and i had a kenwood excelon amp<---not sure what size i am looking at getting a pair of CVR12 12" sub. that is 4ohm. or 2 ohm depending on what you would like(need help deciding that!) and i am looking at a KENWOOD KAC-7201 AMPLIFIER 2 CHANNEL 800 watt. you can poke fun at me all day long but i never really got into bigger better things and i just want something that cost not to much and gives me the sound i want to hear.

I dont know how much you are willing to spend, but I am using the rockford fosgate punch p3001 900 watt amp, and it pounds the crap out of the 12s i have in my crx. I also have an eclipse 4/3/2 channel amp pushing my hi's and 6x9s, and it does well with that too. hope this has helped you. definiteley check out the rf p3001 though if you are going to have any type of nice quality subs. very loud for how cost-efficient it is.
