Anyone ever get a 1st to 2nd grind?
I know it usually means the syncros in the tranny are going... but this R I bought has 12k miles, it's mint and in brand new shape. Tranny shifts smoothly every single time, until tonight I nailed it, VTEC hit 1st gear, tires began spinning, quick shift to second, clutch all the way in, CRRRRUNCH, I hate that feeling/noise... I just got the car, and do NOT want to damage the tranny.
I really think Honda should be alleviated this problem years ago, it seems like all B-series trannys eventually start doing this, either from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd gear shifts..
Anyone try using redline in their trannys? Any difference?

i know exactly what you mean bro, i have a 01 type r #714 with 13,000 miles on it, and ever since about a month ago when i floor it in 1st then shift to 2nd it locks up on me and makes that horrible sound
It's under warranty...take it in.
I got new synchros (sp?) and a new gear or two?? when I took mine in.
It was grinding going from 2nd to 3rd.
The dealer told me to stop redline shifting, since I told him it only did it at redline.
He seemed hesitant to replace the stuff, but they did.

It's just kind of shitty that these cars are made to redline at 8400, but the transmission syncros cannot take it.
Anyone making aftermarket internal transmission parts yet?

What is causing this on our cars..
Mine could be crappy driving...who knows..I'd guess not, but then I think that Honda has good stuff, so it's probably not their fault?
It's not crappy driving, take my word for it.
This is my 9th Honda/Acura.. I have been around B-series engines/transmissions for a while.. and grinding gears at high RPM shifts are very common.
Most of the time it's syncros, other times it can be worn/bent shift forks. I still say Honda could have improved on this since they started with B-series trannies in 1988.

I know exactly what you mean...I had my car for about 3 weeks and the 2nd to 3rd started grinding at redline. I took it in to the dealer and i had them replace it under warranty. The manager said that they would do a 1 time exception and fix the problem because according to him "grinding gears is not coverd" (go figure that sh*t out)
About using redline in the tranny...the woman (yes a middle aged woman) I bought my car from told me that she ran redline in both the tranny and engine. Since then I have switched to Mobile 1 motor oil...and I have heard that redline tranny fluid isnt the best for daily driven vehicles ( I stand to be corrected) so I switched to Honda MT fluid
