Default Need help/advice on buying a turbo kit or putting one together...

Hi, I have a 99' SI with the basics right now. Planning on going turbo as soon as I can pick out what to get. My plans for the car are to go with a basic turbo setup, and then maybe some upgrades here and there down the road as far as the engine goes. Not looking to make huge hp in the future, and also trying to stay reliable since it's a daily driver that sees daily highway trips. At first I was looking into getting a kit since I don't know a ton about turbo setups etc, so it would just be easier for me. After looking into a couple kits such as a revhard kit like this, http://www.turbo-kits.com/civi...civic , the revhard stg2 for 96-00 civic, or something like this https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1 . After reading a ton and talking to a bunch of people about it, I'm starting to get picky about the kits since they put some average parts in to keep the cost down etc, and which I would just swap out for other parts before installing. A couple parts I'm talking about would be like the Vortech FMU they come with, the fuel pump, and possibly other parts. My reason for wanting to swap these parts out is becuase I pretty much plan on running a hondata system etc. Since a bunch of the parts that come in the kits that i'm not really interested in, I'm starting to lean towards buying everything or a bunch of the things seperate. After reading and talking to people I think I've narrowed some good parts that I probly want down to a tial 38mm wastegate, walboro 255lph fuel pump, intank fuel pump since I'm going the hondata route probly, maybe spearco intercooler since I heard good things about them, and probly like a greddy or hks bov. What I'm looking for is help/advice on what I should look for and good places to get stuff. Also I heard you can get like partial kits that include like a turbo, manifold, and I think intercooler.. something along those lines. Also having someone intsall everything(which I will not be doing at all) isn't a problem, I have a friend that works at the Honda dealership that does all this stuff on the side. Sorry if this post is wordy, I'm new to posting :/ Thanks a ton though for any help.

Greddy puts out an awesome kit for your car. Buddy of mine runs one on is 2000 Si and with little other work, he's walking on R6's

Ya I was looking at that at first, but when I found out a lot more about it, it didn't really apeal to me for what I want. From what I get, it's a nice little kit if you wanna run low boost and get a quick spooling turbo with some decent power. But if you want a lot of power and wanna build up more and/or upgrade things in the future it doesn't offer a lot of potential. I went for a ride and even got to drive a buddys 99dx/b18b with a precision sc34 setup and it was a blast and made good power when the turbo came on. Plus the Greddy kit is expensive with the I/C and everything for just a small mitsubishi turbo kit.

Ya thats what I'm leaning towards the more I look into it. Would it still be quite a bit cheaper piecing it together with seperate shipping on parts etc? Also anyone know some good priced places for this stuff? I'll just have to figure out what turbo and manifold is best for my application.

Ya thats what I'll start looking around to do then. Do you guys just individually search the net for each part until you find the cheapest price then order or what? Is buying each piece online seperate a problem with shipping? If anyone knows any good places to look for parts let me know. Thanks a lot for the advice so far, can't wait to be boooosted. Also an exhaust question that is turbo related. I have Greddy Evo1 catback on the car now that rusted through at the flange connecting to the cat from winter driving. Haven't been driving the car because of that and since I can't decide what to do about exhaust. I would probly just get a new or slightly used full stainless steel evo2 if turbo wasn't in the picture, but since it is i'm not 100%. Is there a big difference between like a 2.5"(I think thats what the evo is) and 3", for turbo? I've heard its not a big difference but obviously the 3" will result in a bit better performance. I def need SS though with the salty winter roads here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

U should look at johnny race car intercoolers. You should look in the sponser marketplace here on H-T, there are great deals on everything you will need to piece together a kit.

How bout a Precision T3/T4e SC44 (58mm) .48 a/r, Precision i/c, tubular manifold, rc injectors, Tial wastegate, bov like a Tial,Greddy,HKS.., Hondata, not sure on exhaust yet, 3" would perform best but don't really like the mufflers that go with them. Would like to just replace me evo1 with like a slightly used SS Evo2 thats I think 2.5". Hows this setup look? Any advice/comments? Thanks
