Default my girlfriend won't be impressed if i have to push start my car

ok, ive got an 93civic si w/sir-II lsd swap.
something happened where my starter singnal wire isn't giving singnal.
1st, how do i use my multi meter to check my ignition switch ( i droped my colum to put in a heater core, think i pulled something) also does any one have some wiring diagrams. and a how to of trouble shooting?
2nd, as a temp fix, i went to radio shack and got some speaker wire and a button. i wired one end of the wire to the button, and the other end to the starter singnal and + side of the battery, first try worked perfect and another couple of times worked, but for the most part it just clicks like the gear sticks out but doesn't turn it. do i need to wire in a fuse or something, the starter worked flawlessly before the whole ordeal started. im getting almost 13v out of it but i was wondering if the amps mattered. please help. could it be the wrong v of switch or something cuz the guy at radio hut told me it would work, this is almost it
what would you do.

SPST pushbutton switch. Rated 3 amps at 125VAC. Mounts in 1/2" hole. Red-button version of 275-644.

Default fried switch?

Have you pulled the switch back out to see if you fried it? If you set your multimeter on the ohm setting, check to see if your switch works. You shouldn't have much resistance when the switch is open. If your switch is fried, that may explain it... if not, sorry. I have the wiring diagrams for the ignition system of a 92, so if that would help, I may be able to see what I can do about getting a pic of them.

I'm at work now. I'll take a look at my service manual when I get home. Best hope there's a camera with a fresh battery around or I can get my scanner working.
