Default S2000 softtop

I'm in the process of getting a 2001 sk2. The back window of the softtop looks real shitty, is real small compare to some other ones I seen. Can anyone help???

00-01's have a plastic rear window which if not taken care of properly over time will become blurry.

02+ have a glass rear window which you will prob like much better

I think your only option is to replace it.

freeagent--if you switch to the glass rear window--keep in mind its smaller than the plastic ones.

You can just get the plastic window, but it's pricey and install is a PITA, or so I've heard.

I dont have plastic, so I dont know....... But from what Ive heard--the whole softtop has to be replaced.........

Either hardtopguy or s2ki marketplace sells them for like $850 for the one with glass I believe....

No, you do NOT have to replace the whole top. The window zips out at the top and the sides, but the bottom part is riveted in. It's a PITA to take out. If you take it to a dealer, it'll take them the whole day, usually.

No. Just a leg and some fingers.

I've heard anything from $0 - $500. Depends on the dealer. If you're still under warranty, I believe it's free. There's a TSB on it, too.

A blurry plastic window can be recovered to crystal clear with a little bit of elbow grease.

Search over at S2Ki.com for the how-to. It should cost no more than $15 in materials, and 1-2 hours of your time.

You DO have to take out the whole top. The glass window WILL NOT fit in an '00-'01 top.

I've got an '04 top in my '01. I managed to find a deal on a lightly used one on s2ki. The swap is very extensive, requiring the removal of just about every interior panel aft of the dashboard. And some custom straps will need to be made. A search on s2ki should give you the answers you need.

If I could do it again, I'd just replace the entire frame and top together.

I think I would rather replace the window instead of the softtop. For the kind of money mind as well get the hardtop.

Goto a bmw dealer and buy their plastic widow cleaner, it is the best thing to clean them up. Also it is possible to fit a glass rear, will post a link or search on the web yourself for it.
