what are signs of cv boot tear?
is it tranny fluid all over the inside of the wheel? i think mine are torn on the passenger side.
the entire inside wheel is caked w/ oil
splashed some onto the brake line too i think.
i've never changed a cv boot, is it kinda tuff?

A torn CV boot releases a heavy grease, usually its thrown out onto the suspension components, but an outer CV boot could throw the grease on you wheel. Transmission oil would probably indicate a leaking transaxle side bearing seal. This isn't very common on a honda and generally would end up on your wheels. There have been some detailed discussion on replacement of CV boots in the last few weeks, you might want to do a search.
actually it looks/feels like grease, not oil. did a search and i guess i'll have to replace the outer boot. good thing i spotted it cuz i was planning on a long road trip in a couple days.
If it is your cv boots then there should be some heavy grease substance, which is what it looks like. In that case you should just replace the axle, with the core you should only pay like sixty bucks, w/ a lifetime warranty. just replacing the boot will casue futer problems.
i would do the same i would just change the whole axle to a rebuilt one it does cost only about 60 bucks with core and it is easier, faster, and over all cleaner job than just changing the boot only dirt and debris might have gotten in the cv joint already any ways. not to mention brake dust.
