does price matter? I have the Bell M2. Costed around 320. I think Stand 21 makes great helmets.

I got a Bell M2 for 2 reasons (other than SA95 designation)
- full face design
- large enough eyeport that any pair of sunglasses fit

I got it 3 years ago from Racer Wholesale, $269 I think, but I'm sure they're more now.

Don't skimp on this part. Your head is important. Even if you never do any track stuff where SA rating is sometimes required, a $300 SA rated helmet will protect your noggin better than a $90 Motorcycle helmet.

Bell M2 Pro. Kevlar for lightweight. Large eyeport for comfort (sunglasses). Full face SA2000 rating for safety. BTW, the Dominator is a nice helmet however, I don't see myself doing any open cockpit racing. There are a lot of nice helmets out there. You need to make sure what you pick fits your head. My friend ended up going with a Bieffe. He didn't feel he was getting a good fit in a Bell.

I really like my bieffe. It has that bigger motox looking eyeport for that open face feel.

can your glasses on after you put on the helmet? or the other way around?

i am thinking about the M2. i have to go try it on and make sure i have a "bell head."

For me, helmet then glasses. Some folks can get their in car commincator in after the helmet is on through the eyeport - either the M2 or I am not one of those people.

I wanted to get a lighter helmet. The big eyeport just seems more comfortable to me. I did both at the same time. Here is another thing about the big eyeport. When in the car, I can see the camlock in my lap to fasten the belts. Couldn't do it with the Sport II. Makes driver changes much easier.

just curious... why does the motorcycle helmet not cut it? are there different ratings that the MC helmet doesn't have? just wondering as I'm planning to use my shoei streetbike helmet for AX when it starts up here later this year.

for autocrossing, M rated helmets are fine. I think the main different between SA and MA is the fire resistance. Nomex lining i think. Not sure so dont flame me.

I think that the M helmets are rated for one large hit while the Snell approved helmets are ok for multiple hits, against a cage etc. The SA rated helmets have nomex interior the regular snell helmets do not.
