How is the s2000 maintenance wise?
Very long story short....just graduate college, got a steady "real job" and I am looking to get a house in the near future. I had a 00 si for a while, now I have a '02 audi a4, and it's almost out of warranty. Now the general maintenance costs for the audi, and repairs in general out of warranty are sky high, so i'm looking to dump it soon in favor of something more reliable, and cheaper to maintain obviously in an effort to keep costs down. I testdrove a '06 si today, and while it was pretty nice, I can't help but think that for $20-$23k i'd rather purchase a used s2000. So how are these things maintenance wise? I'm already impressed with the honda reliability as I had my si for 50k miles, beat on it daily, and never had one problem.
Sidenote, would the car be adequate with snow tires in the winter? I live in pa and it would be my daily driver.
Thanks in advance...

Actually, the dealer told me that the maint. as in the book isn't necessary! I change my oil, tires, and alignment on a regular basis. Now, if you're going to race and mod your S2000, I'd have the tools and a manual or put a retainer on a good mechanic
Im in the same boat.. and im wondering how the s2k is maintenance wise, for a daily driver i understand oil change, tires etc... only things I would do Is suspension, wheels, no exhaust maybe intake... thanks for your help guys
Well in regards to the maintenance, I can't really say because I have a Honda Care warranty that covers my S2000 fully. On the same token that may be something to look into if you plan on buying an S2000 (you can probably google honda care). I live in Ohio, and the snow here is most likely just as terrible as it is in Pennsylvania. I have driven rearwheel drive cars for some time now, and consider myself a very cautious driver. So I'll give it to you blunt: S2000 + snow = No. And yes, I have tried winter tires. Now I'm sure there are some people that do drive their S2000's in the snow, and others that would argue that it's perfectly fine to do so. My best advice is that if you would like to go the S2000 route (and it's an excellent one for sure) you get a front wheel drive vehicle (e.g. Honda Civic) to drive during the winter months. I hope this helps!

Oil changes: $40 every 4k.
Tires: $600 a set/year. More if you track.
30/60k maint: $120
The things that will really hit your pockets are insurance, gas, and mods.

they also say that the valves dont need to be adjusted until 100.000 miles, but some peopl eon s2ki are reporting retainer failure at anywhere from 40-70k, retaienr wear from normal every driving. Thats crazy
The manual says valve adjustment at 105k. I got mine done at 30k and I did need and adjustment. They were out of spec. Most other honda cars, manual states every 30 or 60k. If you drive your car hard, I suggest getting them every 30k. Its only costs a 100 at the stealership.
In terms of overall maintenance, just like any other honda its the usual oil changes at 3k, other fluids at 15k,30k, etc... One added thing is our diff needing needed fluid changes every 15k.
The maintenance parts costs maybe $1-2 more than the other honda fluids but i think most are the same price.
Its pretty cheap to maintain if you ask me compared to equivalently priced models out there
