Clicking noise on an 05 S2000 after a drive...is it normal or not?
I have an 05 s2k with 700 miles. Everytime i come home from a drive and my car sits idling in my garage i hear clicking noises or sounds like somethings dropping on metal. I was wondering if this is normal on a brand new car?
I get that all the time too on my 05. I think its normal. I have 2500 miles now and its lessening a bit and for a shorter duration.
I got a question for you, when you're at a stand still and clutch in all they way and put it into first (without even touching the gas yet), does it sometimes like "clunk" in? feels like the whole car moves a bit when you put it into first...

When it sits idling, or when you turn the car off? The clicking is normal usually, especially after a good hard run...
The gear issue is also normal...they'll say they didnt find anything wrong if you bring it in for that.

Nothing wrong. You are just hearing the cats under the car. (not kitten cats, but catalytic converters)
Keep in mind, the car is still under a break in period and even exhaust weld smell will be present.

that clunking noise when u go into first is a problem that u have to take to the dealership to fix, i have an 04 and they remove a bolt and change tranmission fluids, if u have that hard clunk into first u should get it fixed as i did, its free so u better do it b4 warrenty is over, it gets worse over time
i usually get that noise, i figure it was from the exhauste. The longer it sits and cools down the less i hear the noise.
About the gear noise i dont really know.

I've had 2 brand new S2000s, and have looked into the cause of these weird noises.
The clicking/crackling noises are the sound of the exhaust cooling and contracting, after expanding due to the heat.

Even if the clutch isnt engaged, your tranny is still connected through the ground through the propeller shaft, rear end, driveshaft, tires... When you put it in gear, the slack between the gear mesh takes up, and moves the car just a little bit. That's as close to the Honda explanation as I can get.
Best point of all, its normal!

If it were kitty cats I guess you'd hear an abrupt MEOW sound. I hope to get an S2000 for my birthday. Hopefully mine won't fall apart on me.
thanks for the info..when will this noise stop or will this noise be forever in my car?..Also i noticed when i go to first gear its kinda hard to put it in...it kinda grinds going second and sometimes 3rd, do i have to be at a certain speed to shift without grinding?..
what you're getting is probably not a grind but a crunch or clunk, i get that too. i'm changing my tranny and diff fluid this weekend, i'll see how that works out.
I notice 1st gear makes a nice "CRACK" when the car was new. I'm talking about when you put it into 1st gear from neutral. Is it the carbon synchros?
thats the noise i hear..so maybe i should step on the clutch all the way, release the gas pedal, and then put it in gear..the timing must be precise...
Mine did that the day I drove it home from the dealer with 7 miles on the clock, clutch to the floor (always and on every shift) engine idling...its just normal. This car is RAW, plain and simple...who needs refinement?

I was only talking about going into 1st from a stand still, sorry for the confusion.

as long as the clicking isn't upon initial acceleration, take off.. that'd be the rear axle nuts require retorquing.
i blv that topic has been beat 2 death as well, and your car is just too new to be doing that so...
