Default 4spd to 5spd in a 91 civic hatch?

Would i need to change anything if i were to put a DX or SI 5spd tranny into my 91 Civic Hatch STD that originally came with a 4 spd? If i do... im in a bind cause the driver side CV Joint will NOT come out of the hub! i've tried punches....BFH's... and a few other things but it still will not come out! any suggestions on that also? Thanks!

You don't have to change everything, all should be happy and live together once in. If you are having trouble removing the axle from the hub you can try a gear puller, those work wonders

That's weird, because my driver side axle did the same thing. I ended up mutilating the entire operation and just got a new hub. I had to get new hubs anyways to accomodate integra axles. I recommend you go to pick-n-pull and do the same. Funny how yours was the drivers side too.

No the std axles are smaller in diameter. In order to use dx/si axles you will need the hubs from a dx/si. std axles will work fine with the si tranny though

Ehhh! You can use your stock axles as long as you retain your stock hubs.

yeah when i did my clutch i ran into the same problem and it really pissed me off cuz it was after 3 hours and 5 beers...
anyways you can still work with it stuck on the hub and i'd assume that your axles will work with the new tranny since they are both d-series and what not
But just to let you know, you should get a new clutch and maybe a flywheel while your at it

Weird, my driver's side is more of tight fit than my passenger side on my DX.

too bad you dont live a little closer... im about an hour or so away(lima)... if gas prices werent so high then id be up there to help you out... i did the same exact swap... i had the 4 speed on my Z6 and just put a dx in about 2-3 weeks ago... i had my buddy over to help me out and he just put the axle nut back on a few turns and then he just ripped on it with a bfh... came out pretty easy... try that out and see if it works

So the 91 Std and the 91 si use the same amount of teeth on the clutch?

Here is the deal, I grew up in Lima, went to Lima Senior, moved to Florida and graduated there, and now go to UM. But I will never forget the original hometown
