hmm lets see.....the 1.6l vtec engine with much thicker rods vs. the 1.5l non vtec engine with toothpick sized rods...which one sounds better for making power? Yes boosting a d15b7 would be fun and all, but you would be a fool to swap out the better d series motor that you already have for a b7.

Much thicker? You've got to be kidding. D16 rods can maybe handle 10-20 more hp than a D15, so I wouldnt say much thicker. He is right about the y8 being a much better motor though, the only reason you should ever boost a b7 is if it is already in your car.

ok i know they aren't that much thicker, but like you said you would have to be an idiot to swap out a y8 thats already in your car for a b7.

ok first off, YES the Y8 rods have been seen handling 250-300 wheel power where as the D15 have been seen handling 220 just before snapping into several peices and trashing the motor.... There is a BIG diffrence in the rod size and overall strength. a few thousandths will make a big difference so don't kid yourself. also the larger bore will let the motor BREATH WAY better thus allowing for better boost responce and more power to be gained. The V-tec head outflows ANY non-vtec head hands down. The runners and ports alone make a hugh difference not to mention quenching is beter as well.

you do as you wish and keep thinking the D15 is better, but i can assure you as plain as day, that you will not be as happy with your D15 as the guy with a D16 V-tec will be.
Also FYI performance rods for D15 cost 3x's that of a D16 due to rod length is different and demand is way low.. yes the stroke is shorter on a D15 as well. Think about it, thinner rod and shorter stroke. (no not talking about your ****** there pal ) that makes for a bad combo when it comes to performance.

stick with the V-tec motor and rest assure you'llbe way better off in the long run.

i say learn on the d15b7, if it blows no big deal. the just through in a z6 or y8. its a great motor for learning on because they have no resale value.

swap the d15 in and low boost on that..... WHILE you build up the y8 for high boost.

^^^that is what you should do. why would you want to swap in a1.5 non vtec in place of a 1.6 vtec???? it seems like you should of been able to answer your own question.
