d16y8 questions
um i was told to get a jdm d16y8 over the jdm b16 vtec, cause it can stay in obd0, and its got more torque anyway just cause of the .1 more displacement. but um, ive never seen that motor on any honda site. could i at all get it at like a dealership or something, to save shipping

d16z6 5th gen Si engine
d16y8 6th gen EX engine
About the same HP on both, there are fans for both of these engines. Best way to find one cheap, find a shop that does B-series swaps and ask them for a deal on the left overs.

fast method:
get the engine
put on your transmission, intake manifold, and distributor (D16Y8 should allow the OBD0 dizzy to bolt up perfect, Z6 only 2 legs line up).
get an RPM switch or V-AFC to trip the VTEC solenoid.

Ok first you need to determine what you want to do with your motor?
forced induction or all motor?
next the most important part of any build is how much you have to spend?
now i you are like most people on here, you are
"Not filthy rich but just barely BROKE" no but seriously really think about what your goals are and be realistic.
if you have a d15 motor which came in most DX models putting on a complete d16y8 head and manifold would be benificial for 10-25 hp to wheels.
and set you back about 200.00
however you will have to do some wiring and if you are asking what to do i would suggest contacting RYWIRE.COM.. he did my conversion for 160.00 and saved me a lot of time..
as for activating vtec there are a couple of options.
a. switch it manually with cheap radio shack switch , but heard will burn up you vtec solenoid after awhile
b. use rpm activation switch, good but lacks fuel and timing adjustments
c. use a VAFC which is what i use on my car and I am pretty happy about
d. use turbo edit which has a fully programable tuning, and can do just about everything you would need
now there is alot major stuff that you need as well, like
ecu- options are pm6 ,p28, i think pr4 or pg7 can never remember
distrib- pm6 works with a6 block and bolts directly to y8 head if you are going OBD0 or p28 if you are going OBD1 which is leaves you with more programming options instead of just turboedit..
do some searching on here or on google for "MINI-ME"
after that make your decision..
good luck

well since its a honda, ill be going just all motor, my price range is 1000 max. and i dont really wanna do a mini me, i want like the easiest possible engine to put in my car which wil have like 130 hp/100 lbs torque (y8, z6) cause i dont wanna pay labor and if i do the stuff myself it will be much easier to fix if something goes wrong since ill know where **** is and such. cause i heard it could cost well over 1000 in just labor to put in a d series and wire it up for mpfi and vtec. which means im gonna have to learn how to do that myself somehow, and ya ill probly have to talk to rywire about the mpfi thing. and im gonna stay obd0, i dont wanna do a mini me either, too much work for hp that would be the same on like a y8 or z6
MPFI is easy, http://www.4gcivic.net/wp/?page_id=4 (read it at least 6 times) It boils down to adding 4 wires to your car.
